The "Herbert Ladies"

Wind swept

On top of the pier

My cousin Miriam and I had this mini-trip planned when our New Year's Resolutions were still fresh.  Our great-grandfather's sea chest is housed in a museum in Michigan City and we wanted to take the family to see part of their heritage.  He left Germany at the age of 14 and set sail as a cabin boy in a tall ship.  Family legend says that he circled the globe twice before landing in New Orleans and heading north via the Mississippi.  To see the chest that held all of his worldly belongings sounded so intriguing to me.  Sadly, we arrived and the museum was unexpectedly closed due to a town festival.  The beach and a walk down the pier to the lighthouse was our conciliation prize.  The girls didn't seem too upset with this outcome.
