All four of us have been taking turns coughing and sneezing for the last several weeks.  It's like hot potato around here.  Ella was the latest casualty with her first (and hopefully last) bout of Strep Throat.  She and her bubblegum medicine took it like a champ.

Making our way around the periphery.

I shuddered as I got a glimpse into our future. One totally bothered and the other who couldn't be bothered.
Adolescence awaits.

I had such hope for the month of March when I first purchased my 2014 calendar.  In the margin I had penciled in big plans to work on some lingering home improvement projects, clean the windows inside and out and maybe even get Viv on her big-girl bike a few times so that by the time the farmer's market opened in May, she'd be able to make the two mile ride round trip without complaint.  But just when we think the snow will start to thaw, we wake to a fresh blanket of white and thoughts of Spring are postponed again.  We've gotten pretty used to weekends spent avoiding the cold and slush, nursing fevers and getting buried in Kleenex.  We borough into our couch, wondering how long a trip to Jewel can be postponed because maneuvering a grocery cart through a sloppy parking lot is no party.  We wave at weary parents on the blacktop, hiding behind layers of winter-wear.  I get so sick of talking about the weather but really it's all that Chicagoan's can talk about right now.  I'm guilty of it too.  But this weekend, Jerry and I were determined to break out of our weekend winter rut.  We took the girls to an old childhood haunt, the Lombard Roller-rink.  The DJ booth was right where we left it in 1984, along with the DJ and most of the personnel.  It was great.  The girls sang along to Katy Perry as they clung to the carpeted wall trying to stay upright.  A little over an hour in and Viv was ready to hang up her skates.   It was clear Ella was never going to get her fill (see picture above).   Funny how a little break in our winter monotony was the charge we needed.  Hopefully it will get us through these last few weeks (am I being too optimistic?) of winter.

Viv and the coveted "green dress" at preschool.  Apparently whoever wears this dress assumes the role of classroom Alpha Wolf...an opportunity little Viv would NEVER pass up.

So Jerry and I are for-going the college fund and opting instead to save our pennies for a master bathroom.  Any questions?
